What a WhatsApp API actually costs.
Two billing models, one of which moves with your traffic and one of which does not. This page explains both, shows the real cost per message at each volume, and says plainly where a flat plan is the wrong choice. Before the price list means anything, the model has to.
Almost every cost comparison in this category fails because it puts a per-conversation rate next to a monthly fee as though they measure the same thing. They do not.
Per conversation or per message
- How it bills
- You pay for each conversation window or each message, at a rate that varies by country and by message category.
- What drives the bill
- Volume, destination country, and which category a message falls into.
- Predictability
- The bill moves with your traffic. A campaign that performs well costs more than one that does not, and a new market changes the rate.
Flat per connected number
- How it bills
- You pay per WhatsApp number connected to the platform. Messages, media, groups and channels are not metered on any plan, including the entry one.
- What drives the bill
- How many numbers you run. Nothing else.
- Predictability
- The bill is the same in a quiet month and a peak one. You can quote it to finance a year ahead without modelling traffic.
Cost per message
What a flat plan works out to, per message, at real volumes.
Every cell is the plan price divided by the messages you send that month. Nothing here is a discount or a promotion: it is the same monthly fee, spread over more messages.

Unmetered means no per-message charge, not infinite throughput. A fully warmed number paces at up to 50 messages an hour, so Solo tops out near 36,000 messages a month across its 1 numbers. That ceiling exists to protect the number, and new numbers start far below it while they warm up.
Where this is the wrong choice
Three cases where a flat plan costs you more.
If one of these is you, the honest answer is that we are not the cheapest way to solve your problem.
Very low volume
Below roughly a thousand messages a month, a flat fee is poor value per message. At 100 messages, $6 a month works out around $0.19 each, which metered pricing will usually beat. Flat-rate starts winning once you are sending steadily.
When you need the official channel
If your organisation requires Meta's sanctioned API for compliance reasons, cost is not the deciding factor and should not be. Pay for the official channel and treat the difference as the price of that sanction.
Cheaper sticker prices exist
Entry pricing elsewhere in this category starts lower per number than ours does.
